Our client, a specialist supplier of tailored client managed services offers an exceptional opportunity for a Head of Outsystems Engineering to join their expanding services team. The company itself has gained an enviable reputation for the delivery of a high level of quality outsourced integrated recruitment service platforms to organisations and businesses throughout the UK.
The core elements of their value proposition to customers are as follows: Getting away from internal preferred supplier lists to a supply chain of 2000+ agencies resulting in better and faster vacancy fill rates. A single platform to orchestrate this recruitment means greater control, compliance and visibility of agency recruitment and spend for the customers. Currently most of their customers clients are local authorities who have large numbers of permanent staff, resulting in large temporary staffing needs for new projects and initiatives as well as cover for holidays and sickness. However, they are increasingly winning new customers in the private sector, especially in the care and retail industries. Again, these are environments that have large permanent staff numbers, leading to large requirements of temporary staffing needs. They are is close to processing £1bn of staffing costs through their platform on an annual basis. This is because of their continued investment in people and technology.
Our client has ambitious growth planned and are backed by one of the UK's leading growth Private Equity investors. In this regard the opportunity to join this company comes at an exciting time in the business' lifecycle. The business currently employs around 150 personnel and is based in Milton Keynes. The current core platform is developed in an aged technology with support from only a handful or individuals. The company has embarked on a re-platforming exercise in partnership with Outsystems using their low-code development tool as well as their consulting services to help the company deliver the requirements. The plan is that over the next 12months the core platform is rewritten in Outsystems.
Purpose of the role:
Our client has already recruited individuals with existing Outsystems development experience as well as retrained some existing members of the team in Outsystems technology. To compliment this development, the company is now looking for someone to lead the team from a technical excellence perspective.
The role is focused on technical engineering skills and capability rather than team member line management. The execution of this is: Being a member of the technology leadership team influencing technical direction and decisions on platform development.
Working with the Product Manager and Business Analyst to take business requirements and translate them into technical plans. The technical planning must from above includes architecture design, development approach and estimating. Leading the technical team from an engineering perspective, i.e., communicating the to-be technical architecture, components to be built, integration approach, etc.
Distributing the work to the technical team and mentoring them as needed. Monitoring quality of delivery of the technical team through code reviews.
Establishing best practice around Outsystems architecture, development standards and release management.
Participating in Outsystems technical forums, attending Outsystems events to ensure staying current with their latest developments and technical capabilities with a view to leveraging this knowledge into their clients. Specifically, regarding Project Tagus, the re-platforming of the CR.net application, the role over the first 12 months will be focused on: Working in an Agile manner with Outsystems, the Product Manager and the technology team to translate the product roadmap into epic's, sprints, and backlogs.
Working in a joint fashion with the Outsystems team as a technical team leader (in Outsystems definition) to co-deliver the re-platforming exercise, in summary, the Head of Outsystems Engineering will own the technical architecture, development, performance and maintenance of the client's core platform.
What you'll need for this role:
At least 5 years Outsystems development experience
Worked on a platform that is sold on a business-to-business basis, but heavily used on a consumer basis too (i.e., External workers who use the platform to enter timesheets)
Architected and engineered an internet facing solution that has hundreds of thousands of users with multiple £m's of value of transactions being processed.
Had development experience in other tools and technologies, e.g., C#, SQL, Java, etc.
