We are currently recruiting for an exciting food manufacturing organisation in Northampton. Our client is looking for an exceptional buyer to join their procurement team to manage the sourcing and procurement of goods. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with 1-5 years of experience in food manufacturing procurement, who is looking to quickly progress their career in a growing organisation.

Reporting into the supply chain manager and sitting alongside a team of highly accomplished buyers, the buyer will be responsible for the end-to-end sourcing of a portfolio of commodities required for the manufacture of the organisation's products. This could include both back end, day-to-day sourcing using the existing database on their MRP system, as well as sourcing new products and new suppliers, all the way through to delivery of product. They will be part of a fast-paced and rewarding environment and be given plenty of autonomy and scope for decision-making.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious driven self-starter, capable of working independently. They will be a strong communicator and ideally have experience with managing both internal and external stakeholders and will be a fast learner, capable of on boarding new information quickly and adapting to new circumstances and products. Finally they will have strong buying experience within a food manufacturing environment and have good commercial understanding.

Responsibilities of the Buyer

General Purchasing administrative and non-administrative duties
Placing purchase orders securing the required lead times, driving quality adherence and pursuing best cost for direct materials and sub-contract services in line with the business demand (MRP requirements)
Issuing requests for quotation (RFQ's/RFI's/RFP's) with focus on creating competitive tension between potential supplier providing the platform to make informed and sustainable sourcing decisions to support business requirements
Identify risks in the supply chain with focus to resolve using supplier development activities or resource activities to support business requirements
Ensure On Time Delivery of all items

Key Requirements

1 - 5 years experience in a related industry as part of a procurement function
Excellent communicator and fast learner
